Flamingo Club Meets

at IJA Festival in Portland, Oregon -- July 2006

The Flamingo Club met on Friday afternoon at the Portland IJA festival to chat and select this year's award winners. We introduced ourselves and talked about the newly released DVD titled Trailblazers: Women Who Juggle which was screened on Saturday morning at the festival. Judy Finelli, a long-time professional juggler and the IJA's first woman president, attended the screening and was honored. Heather Marriott, Dorothy Finnigan, Lana Bolin, Iman Kidwell, Connie Leaverton, Cindy Marvell, Viveca Gardiner and Erin Stephens passed clubs around Judy as a tribute. Go to the IJA Store to buy a copy of the video.

We had a huge task to pick a winner for our award this year because there were so many young women jugglers at the festival!  We consider that a wonderful accomplishment. We decided to honor two young jugglers who were very active at this festival. Aubree Kolas won seven medals at the joggling competition on Tuesday and was seen throughout the festival juggling everywhere. Kimberly Martinez, age 10, from San Antonio, Texas, attended many workshops and performed in the Youth Showcase on Wednesday night.  We decided to ask Erin Stephens to present the awards.  We also decided to give honorable mention awards and a DVD to about 10 otherf young women jugglers.

Arthur Lewbel and Todd Smith Products donated 6 clubs for the Flamingo Award this year. The Quebec Jugglers donated 2 camisole shirts with the JAQ logo and the IJA donated 10 "Trailblazers: Women Who Juggle" DVDs. The Rainbow's End Theatre Company of Pennsylvania donated the trophies.
